After running CPS Tackle for 7 years and listening to our customers about the ever increasing bait prices which continue to rise year after year. We decided it was time to start our own bait company with the aim to create the highest quality bait we could but with cheap prices possible. After months and months of research we realised there was a gap in the market where we could produce quality bait and sell it at cheaper prices than all the big boys. We wanted to do this to help make the anglers money go further by making it cheaper to fish and to prove that bait doesn’t have to be expensive to catch fish.
We started Apex Baits at the beginning of 2017, after sourcing companies that can supply high quality ingredients and at low prices. We started out producing our first particle mixes “Maple Maize” and “Cooked Oily Hemp Seed.” When we’re producing our particle mixes a lot of thought and effort goes into them as we want them to be the best they can. We do this by preparing smaller batches for each of them, this means that some of the particle mixes can take 2-3 days to complete. We don’t just throw the ingredients in and boil them till all the goodness has been boiled out, We allow it to sit and simmer extracting all the natural sugars/starches making the liquid they sit in a huge attractant to stimulate the fish to come in and feed. This also goes for our “Oily Hemp Seed” when cooking it we make sure that it is cooked by taking samples and making sure we can see its chitted and the liquid has become oily. As soon as a particle mix is completed it is cool enough to bag and put into the freezer straight away to maximize the freshness to keep all of the goodness and flavour in the mix. The next particle mix to come along was the “Milky Zig” this is by far the most complicated mix to cook as it has many different ingredients. We watch over this one the most as it has to be precise so that when using it, the particles travel up and down in the water columns as when doing so it leaves a milky cloud. This mix is not only good for zig fishing but if the bites dry up on the zig you can put a bottom bait on and fish straight over the seed that has fallen to the lake bed. The problem with a lot of zig mixes is they’re designed to make a cloud and disperse in the water so once the cloud has gone there is no more attraction. The larger seeds in our Zig mix will create a layer of bait on the lake bed that will keep attracting fish into the area.
Without pushing Apex Baits we were shocked at the amount of particle we were selling and the catch results that people were showing us say they were having far more success on our particle than other available and we believe this is due to the care and attention in the cooking process. After the success with the particles, we then found a source for feed pellets which we were able to source in bulk and offer our customers better prices even though they are the same standard of pellet that some of the top bait companies use. Then came the oils and liquids which are bought in bulk and bottled here in our own factory.
Apex Baits started going from strength to strength without any advertising just by word of mouth and people buying from our store CPS Tackle. This is when we started getting asked if we could produce a good quality boilie for a cheap price. So we began sourcing again which led to us having three boilie ranges with matching pop ups and glugs. With our boilie range we like to keep it simple just offering a couple of sizes of pop up and boilie because if we get too in depth this is when prices will begin to rise. A lot of people when we first brought out our boilie range wouldn’t use it because they said it was just cheap bait but after seeing the catch results of the anglers using our baits they soon came back in to try it them for themselves and realised that you don’t have to spend a lot of money on bait to catch carp.
We feel at Apex Baits that we have started to succeed in what we first attempted to do in making the anglers money go further whilst still catching fish, which we are very proud of. We’ve never set out to have a huge and complicated bait range we just want to offer extremely good value for money and help the everyday angler catch their personal best fish.
